A giant sundial near the Weightbridge Clock Tower, designed to show the time, in BST, on 9 May to commemorate important events on that date in 1945 when Guernsey was liberated from German Occupation at the end of World War 2.
The specially shaped obelisk throws a shadow, on the stone bench, which follows a timeline calculated to allow for EoT, Latitude and BST.
The 5m high obelisk is of Guernsey granite, and the seating and paltform are French granite.
Designed by the Guernsey artist Eric Snell, delineated by David Le Conte, and erected by the States of Guernsey Liberation Day Committee.
