The first phase of the refurbishment of the BSS website is now online. Having created a new framework for the site, I am now transferring content from the old site into the new format, which I hope you will find attractive and easy to navigate. It should also be mobile friendly and automatically arrange itself to look good on a phone or on a computer.
There is a new-look Bridol, which is now fully up to date with the Register, and contains about 4,500 entries. When you go to Bridol you initially see a random selection of 36 dials, and there is also the familiar map view and a new search facility.
The section 'How Sundials Work' work has been re-formatted into just four pages, and also has new sections on how to set up, and how to read a sundial. There is also an expanded 'Making Sundials' section which includes the 'Sundial Angle Calculator' to enable you to put in your location and get a printout of all the angles you need for making a horizontal or vertical dial, including longitude adjustment.
The Bulletin Archive and Glossary are on my list to be transferred over, and I would welcome feedback from members about any other parts of the old site which they found particularly useful. I would also be very grateful if members would like to suggest links for a 'Sundial Resources' section. These could be people who design, make or sell sundials, websites with useful information, software and apps that you would recommend, helpful books (that are still in print) and so on.
The website address is https://sundialsoc.org.uk/, and please send any comments to me at webmaster@sundialsoc.org.uk
