Hospitalfield House (1), Arbroath

Hospitalfield House is an early Arts & Crafts Scottish Baronial country house, left in trust in 1890 to support artists. It was designed and built by Patrick and Elizabeth Allan Fraser from 1843, and the dials were designed by Alexander Brown. The stone came from the quarries owned by Patrick Allan Fraser at Brax and Drumyellow, near Woodville and Boysack which is just to the north of Arbroath. This dial declines about 40° east of south, and shows hours III (above the horizon line) - XII - III, divided to half and quarter hours. See also the adjacent SRN 8575, and SRN 4481 and 4482.
