Dial in Hampshire

This slate dial was designed for N55° 4’, W6° 54’, a position near Limavady, Co Donegal. It is now held in Hampshire. It is signed ’Cut by / John Hartey’ and dated ’Jan / 1853’. It shows Arabic hours for 4am to 8pm, read from the inside, with a noon gap, divided to 30, 15 and 5 minutes. In the centre is a 32-point compass rose labelled to NbE etc. Around this is a ring containing the Zodiac names and sigils. At the south is a table for the Equation of Time in four pairs of columns, and around the whole perimeter is a ring with the month names and number of days. The gnomon is a simple bar with an ’S’ support. The dial sits an antique Coade stone pillar on bricks surmounted by a square platform.
