BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Lighthouse, Sumburgh

The dial stands on a white circular section fluted pillar. It is inscribed at the south ’SUMBURGHHEAD’. It shows hours IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside In the centre is an 8-point compass rose, labelled to NE erc. Outside that is an EOT scale, with ’WATCH FASTER’ / ’SLOWER’. The bar gnomon has a substantial base in the form of a cross.
