BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Eastham

This dial, mounted on a baluster pedestal just SE of the south porch, was made by a local watch and clock maker and repairer, and the plate is a replica of SRN 2469, which was stolen in 2002. The gnomon is not a replica - the original was pierced and somewhat flimsy, so a more robust, unpierced one was substituted. The time is marked as IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the inside, with no noon gap. and divided to quarter hours. The centre is filled by a four-point compass rose. The names inscribed at the south are church wardens, ’Jno. Grice / Jno Meacock’. Three replicas of SRN 2469 were made. This is one, and one is on view in the church, with a memorial plaque describing the replacement.
