BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Lews Castle, Isle of Lewis

This photoetched dial is installed on a cast iron pedestal in the Sunken Garden. Embossed at the south, read from the north, is ’LEWS CASTLE / 2020’. The dial shows hours IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside, with a noon gap, and divided to half and quarter hours. The central portion of the dial plate gives an extensive hisory of the Castle from the 17th century Mackenzies to the present day. Around the northern half of the perimeter, read from the south, is ’DAYLIGHT HOURS - WINTER 6H 9M : SUMMER 17H 51M · LATITUDE 58° 13’ LONGITUDE W 5° 24’ · TIME DIFFERENCE : 25 MIN BEHIND GREENWICH · ’. Around the southern half is ’MACMILLAN HUNTER SUNDIALS EDINBURGH CASTLE GROUNDS REGENERATION PROJECT · SUPPORT FROM NATIONAL LOTTERY HERITAGE FUND ·’.
