BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Cock Inn, Boughton Monchelsea

This recent wall decoration is painted in black on the whitewashed brick south wall of the pub at first floor level, above and to the right of the main entrance. It shows vertical hour numerals VIII - XII - IV - VII, with hour and half-hour lines, and has an attractively in-filled gnomon. But it is sadly far from being a functional sundial. For this location one would expect the hours to run from about 6:45 to 6:45, with the noon line vertical and the gnomon along the 1pm line. In addition the gnomon is mounted too high, above the intersect point of the hour lines.
