BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Cheshire

The dial celebrates a wedding anniversary and family birthdays. It is made from Welsh slate with a gilt brass gnomon and is mounted on a chimney pot in the front garden. It shows 4am to 8pm in Arabic hour numerals, with a Christian cross for noon, read from the outside, with hour lines to a small circle around the gnomon root and short half hour lines. There is an EOT curve below the gnomon, and there are three date curves. At the south, read from the north, is ’S.J.R’, the owner’s initials, above the Robertson shield with three wolf heads, flanked by skis and ski sticks. Around the vertical perimeter is a long quotation from Sam McBratney starting: ’I love you as high as I can reach . . . ’.
