BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Cottage, Kirkbymoorside

The dial is mounted on the cottage wall below and to the right of one of the windows, attached with three iron dogs. It is a thick square dark grey granite slab, severely pitted, particularly over the upper portion. There was an inscription across the top but it is now almost illegible, but possibly ’John Bartlett’. It uses upright Arabic hour numerals 5 - 12 - 3, with full length hour lines, divided in a narrow chapter ring to half and quarter hours. The gnomon is a heavy iron bar with one support at about 10am.
