The sundial is sunk flush into the stone wall of a circular turret at the south corner of the castle. It bears strongly to the east, using upright hour numerals IV - XII - II, with hour lines to a small semi-circle, and no subdivisions. The bar gnomon is supported by an arc and a circle. Across the top is ’Latet Ultima’ (The last is hidden). Across the bottom is ’Cursum Perficio’ (I stay the course, or I accomplish my course) the Clan Crest of the Hunter family who have lived in the castle since the 12th century.
