BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Powys

The dial is inscribed, to the south of the gnomon, read from the south: "Meredith Hughes / Fecit 1778 Lat 53° 0’ ". Above this is a crest of a demi-lion rampant, armed and langued issuing out of a ducal coronet. To the north of the gnomon, read from the north, is: ’Sic Praeterit / Ætas’ (A lifetime passes thus). The hour numerals IIII - XII - IIII - VIII are read from the inside, with a noon gap, and divided to half and quarter hours inside the chapter ring, and to 10, 5 and (unusually) 2.5 minutes outside, the 10s labelled in Arabic, read from the inside. At the centre is a 16-point compass rose labelled to WSW etc, read generally as upright as one circuits the rose anti-clockwise, but with ’SW’ inverted. There is then an equation of time scale labelled clock slower/faster with the equipoints at 15 April, 11 June, 31 August, 23 December. The light bar gnomon with base has an elaborate branched support. See the second page of report 12228 for more detail.
