BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Matthew’s Church, Croydon

The large blue rectangular dial, with all furniture in white, is on the south-west brick face of the church. It uses upright numerals X - XII - IV - VIII, divided to 30 and 15 minutes, with hour lines to an arc around the eight-pointed flaming sun at the root of the rod gnomon. Across the top is ’Whoever lives by truth comes into the light’. Below the chapter ring is ’MM’, and below that ’Latitude North 51 29 22 Longitude West 000 16 30’, both figures some way adrift from the correct location. The reason is not known. In small letters at the bottom right corner is ’D HARBER MCMXCIX’.
