BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Johnstone Castle, Johnstone

The dial is half way up the east end of the south-facing wall of the castle, visible from the road. The gnomon is missing but the inscriptions remain clearly. Across the top is the date 1700, between initials ’L H’. Arabic hour numerals for 6am to 6pm are aligned to the hour lines which run to a small semicircle around the gnomon root.
