BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Lancashire

This dial is inscribed in the chapter ring with the date and ’Long Liffe ye King Charles’. There is a skull to the west of the gnomon and a scythe to the east, and below them ’As the long hours / do pass away / so doth / the life of man / decay’. The gnomon is hard to see in the photograph but has some elaboration. The hours are IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside and possibly divided to 5 minutes.
