BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Dorset

This small dial is sunk into a larger stone mushroom pedestal with a gently bulbous octagonal-sectioned stalk, and secured with four slot-head screws. The headstone is engraved around the dial plate ’In loving memory’, and around the vertical edge probably ’Robin Hoggin 1928 - 1986’. The grey dial may be of slate. Little furniture is visible, only small Roman numerals, and hour lines arising from a half flaming sun. The gnomon is secured through two small circular holes, and is mounted the wrong way round, pointing south instead of north (assuming the plate is correctly oriented).
