Dial in Berkshire

This pair of dials is mounted at first floor level on the south-east corner of the house. They were delineated by Frank King and made in David Kindersley’s Workshop. The dial declining a little west of south has upright Arabic hour numerals for 2am to 1pm with hour lines to a sun with twelve broad rays, alternating straight and curved, interspersed with twelve longer thin rays, and half-hour lines terminating in inward-pointing arrow heads. The dial declining a little south of east is similar, with hours 8am to 7pm. Across the top of the pair is ’PATRICK 1955 / 1980 AMABEL’, and across the bottom ’HORVS · NON · NVME / RO · NISI · SERENAS’. All the lettering and the hour lines are treated with platinum leaf. The gnomons are unpierced, possibly stainless steel. .
