BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Devon

This 2-sided dial stands on a fluted square-sectioned pillar in the front garden. The plate rotates about a central horizontal axis to display either summer or winter hours. One side is labelled ’December to June’ across the top, with ’Oh! to be in England now that spring is nigh’ below, both inscriptions gilded. It shows hours 7am to 5pm in Arabic numerals, with curved quarter-hour lines between the labelled winter and summer solstice lines. The other side is similar, headed ’June to December’, with ’The season of summer flowers and mellow fruitfulness’ below.
