BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial on this market cross appears to be totally eroded, but the east and west gnomons remain. Humphrey Bolton, writing in Geograph, said: "Frank Peel, writing in 1893, did not know the history of this monument but guessed correctly that it was erected by the lord of the manor, Dr Richardson of Bierley Hall. It had four sundials, of which at least two survive as the styles can be seen sticking out from the stone. There was originally a weather-vane." The column was badly damaged by a lorry in 2021 and may have been moved.
