BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Leigh

This simple dark blue dial with a pointed arch top is located high on the secondary octagonal tower to the east of the south porch. It shows 7am to 5pm in white upright Roman numerals using XII and IV, with full length hour lines to an unmarked semicircle around the gnomon root, and no subdivisions. A bold hollow white cross marks the meridian and the horizon, with the date ’2000’ across its upper branch. Inside the cross, and piercing its base, is inscribed a red sword. The dial is probably signed at the bottom right but it is too far up to read. Equally hard to discern with confidence, the gnomon appears to have been fixed too low at the date of these photographs.
