BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Grange, Street

The site is owned by the Alfred Gillett Trust, linked to Clarks Shoes properties. The dial is set into the wall over the east-facing doorway of The Barn near to ‘The Grange’ which was the HQ of the Clarks firm. It is now a conference and wedding venue. The dial plate is probably blue lias, and the gnomon iron. The delineations are in a general circular shape within the square, showing 5am to 11am in Arabic numerals, with short lines for quarter hours, an arrow head for half hours, and continuous lines for hours. There are decorative relief carvings in the corners and the centre. The date ’1811’ is at the top right.
