BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

West Turnpike / Front Street, Glanton

The dial is on the rear wall of Glanton cistern, having been relocated from one of the south-facing terrace of houses that once stood on this corner. The motto across the top is ’Lux venit ab alto’ (Light cometh from on high), but the final word ’alto’ is split acoss two lines due to lack of space! The dial uses upright Arabic numerals for 6am to 6pm, with hour lines to a small semicircle around the root of the missing gnomon. There are no sub-divisions of the hours.
