Dial in Lothian Region

The dial was created for Hatherton Hall in South Staffordshire, where it remained until its sale in c1971. It is inscribed on the south side ’B. Talbot delin / Thos. Ore fecit / Latitude 52° / 1777’ . Ore was a clockmaker of Tong, Shropshire, about 10 miles from Hatherton Hall. The dial uses numerals IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside, divided to 30, 15 and 7.5 minutes inside the chapter ring, and to 30, 10 and 2 minutes at the outer perimeter. There is a 16-point compass rose labelled to WSW etc. The solid gnomon has an imbricated northern edge and is supported by a turned circular boss.
