BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Barnard Castle

The break-arch dial is inset in the gable over the south porch. Around the arch is ’Man fleeth as a shadow’ (Job xiv 2) and in the arch is an irregular 16-pointed star. The hour numerals are VII - XII - IIII - VI, aligned to full length hour lines, with no subdivisions. The noon line is offset to the west. The dial is now white, with all furniture in black, but it is said by Gatty to have been originally painted red with a green border. Ref: Gatty 1900
