BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial commemorates the servicemen who died in the Falklands conflict in 1982. Around the perimeter is ’AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM’, and across the base is ’THE SHADOW OF THE BRAVE’, above ’To commemorate the Falklands Conflict / 2 April - 14 June 1982’. The time is shown with Arabic numerals read from the outside, from 6 to 18, divided to quarter hours, with dots along the half hour lines totalling 255 for the fallen. The Corten steel gnomon is modelled on the silhouette of a kneeling veteran paying his respects to his fallen comrades. The dial was designed by Chris Smith at Concrete Creative and manufactured by Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company with steel donated by BAE. Photos requested.
