BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Waterways (2), Great Yarmouth

One of pair of dials, this one to the west of the Boating Lake. The gnomon has been wrenched off, but was presumably pierced, like the gnomon of the companion dial, SRN 8319. All other details are as for 8319, apart from the inscription, which reads ‘…it was well known (I suppose to those who had / the good fortune to be Bloaters) that Yarmouth was, / upon the whole, the finest place in the universe’ (from David Copperfield by Charles Dickens). The dial is on a square section stone pedestal, tapering towards the top, 800 mm high, with square capital 350 mm across, standing on a square base, faced with an irregular pattern of stones. This pedestal previously held a 1920s dial which had disappeared by the time of the restoration.
