BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Golf Links Clubhouse, Old Head of Kinsale

The dial is in the clubhouse garden. It shows 6am to 9pm with Roman numerals using IV for 4pm, with a noon gap, and divided to 30, 15 and 5 minutes. The timescale is rotated by 1 hour 34 minutes to allow for summer time and the longitude offset from Greenwich. There is a ’W’ nodus notch on the gnomon and a summer solstice curve on the plate. The outline of the Old Head headland and the Stone of Accord are engraved, as is the motto ’FROM THE ÆONS OF TIME’. Ref: Michael Harley, www.sundials-ireland.com
