BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Cork

The dial is the final station on the ’Cosmic Walk’. The world is represented by the ringed globe at the base of the 3.2 metre high gnomon. This has a centre slit to allow a shaft of sunlight to appear on the dial face at solar noon. There is a 200mm wide noon gap on the dial face, and a prism is mounted on the tip of the gnomon, casting a spectrum on the noon gap marker at solar mid-day. There are hour lines from 6am to 6pm, and half hour lines, the hours being marked with 200mm high stainless steel Roman numerals. There is an Equation of Time plaque and a Time Correction plaque with instructions on how to convert sundial time to watch time set in the tiles at the base of the gnomon. The dial was designed by Jonathan Mason of Heritage, Planning and Design Services, Lusk, Co. Dublin. Ref: Michael Harley, www.sundials-ireland.com
