BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial stands on a square brick pedestal on the lawn outside the Natural History Museum. The underslung gnomon is formed by the wing of a butterfly. The dial shows 6am to 6pm with Arabic numerals read from the inside, with hours 6, 9, 12, 3, and 6 only being numbered. There is a noon gap, and there are no hour subdivisions. Around the perimeter is inscribed ’Tring butterfly donated by Hertfordshire County Planning Department 1993’.
