BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Leeds Castle, Maidstone

This is an approximate copy of a dial of 1750 by Thomas Hogben (see SRN 0406) which is now kept in store at the castle. The effect from a distance is good but the detail is wrong in many respects, for example ’Master of the Tree [Free] School’, ’Watch Lower [Slower] / Watch Easter [Faster]’. The dial is on the original pedestal in a bay half way along the west curtain wall of the Inner Bailey, and the picture given here is actually of the old dial, to show its position, pending a new photograph.
