BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Laoighis

The dial is an armillary sphere of bow-string design, installed on a base slab of local stone. The meridian ring is inscribed ’ML-B’ and ’DJ 2013’. The hour ring uses Arabic numerals divided to 5 and 15 minutes, and is delineated with the very considerable longitude correction. Around the circular black (granite?) mount stone is inscribed the location and the date, and also the motto ’L’heure passe l’amitie reste’. The dial was water-cut from a single bronze sheet 40mm thick. It was designed by Sir Mark Lennox-Boyd and made by Davis Johnston of Thortergill Forge, Garrigill, Alston, Cumbria CA9 3DH.
