BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Parliament House, Edinburgh

This is a group consisting of a pair of vertical south facing dials about 1000 x 1000, and a small east facing one, 500 x 500. They are possibly of the same stone as the rest of Parliament House, and in keeping with buildings of the same era in Parliament Square. The south dials have hour lines from VI to VI at hourly intervals, and upright Roman numerals. The date is taken as that of an associated dial (not found) mentioned in the reference below. The dials are built into the wall and canted out at around 9 degrees to face south or east. The rear face of Parliament Hall is almost parallel to the line of the Royal Mile which is declined at 9° to the east. It is not easy to view the dials; see report 11887 for assistance. Ref: A. Naveen Robertson: ‘Old sundials in and near Edinburgh’, Book of the Old Edinburgh Club, 27, 100-101 (1949) (available online).
