Dial in Hereford & Worcester

This is an armillary dial of ’bow-string’ design, made from one piece of bronze 400 x 400 x 20mm, mounted on a Welsh slate top. The time is shown with longitude correction in Arabic hour numerals divided to 15 and 5 minutes. The dial stands on an existing plinth 400mm dia., in the family dog graveyard. The motto around the top of the plinth reads ’DIIS MANIBUS CANIBUS’. (Roman grave stones had engraved ‘In the hands of the Gods’ followed by a name.) It was designed by Sir Mark Lennox- Boyd and manufactured by John Huddlestone of Mardale, Quernmore, LA2 9EG.
