BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Tayside Region

The dial is in the form of a tetrahedron cairn, with two slate trapezoid dial faces declining + or - 30deg and reclining 71.86 degrees, each face 1500 x 250mm. A third face has a table of approximate corrections for EOT. The slate was supplied and cut by Burlington and the gnomons are bronze. The dial is calibrated for BST (being covered in snow in winter!) without EOT corrections but with corrections for displacement from Greenwich. The three faces bear the inscription ’MONTES AMABAT SEMPITERNOS’ (He loved the eternal hills). Also appearing are the initials of the designer Sir Mark Lennox-Boyd, Ben Jones the engraver, and Colin M the local stone mason who built it with Ben’s help, and also the owner DHA, the date 2015 and the location co-ordinates.
