BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Hackney

The church was designed by George Gilbert Scott in 1858. The dial is at roof level above a door at the east end of the south side. Across the top is ’Are there not twelve hours in the day’, and across the foot ’The night cometh on when no man can work’. Around the root of the gnomon is the date, probably 1935 (or 1955?). The upright hour numerals are VI - XII - IIII, divided to 30 and 15 minutes. The solid bar gnomon has three horizontal supporters. The condition of the dial is generally good but the slate is beginning to flake in the lower corners.
