BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Suffolk

The dial is inscribed ’B S Crow / Chiswick 1797’, but is unlikely to date from the 18th century. It carries the motto ’Serene I stand among the flowers / and only count life’s sunny hours / for me dark days do not exist / I’m a brazen-faced old optimist’. The hours are IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the inside, divided to 30 and 5 minutes. In the centre is an 8-point compass rose.
