BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Somerset

The dial is on the terrace in front of the main building and stands on a Bath stone pedestal. It is a P&G heliochronometer, serial no 184, and has been in this position since it was installed in 1908. The motto reads (in short lines) NULLI OPTABILIS /DABITUR MORA / IRREVOCABILIS / LABITUR HORA / NE SIT INUTILIS / SEMPER LABORA / NEVE SIS FUTILIS / VIGILA HORA (None from Time’s hurrying wain / Winneth delay; / Ne’er to come back again / Speedeth each day: / While its few hours remain / Labour alway. / Lest thou should’st live in vain, / watch thou and pray.) Ref: Gatty 1900 page 348.
