BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dunbar Town House (2), Dunbar

The Town House dates from the 16th century and is now a museum. This dial is one of a pair set into the plaster-work near the top of the clock tower (see SRN 8056 for the other). They are recorded as having been painted by Alexander Mackbyth in 1686, but their present excellent condition is due to extensive renovation of the building, completed in 2011. This dial has Arabic hour numerals for 2pm to 8pm arranged along the lower side, and also written upside down (apart from 2pm) along the upper. There are no subdivisions. As with the companion dial, the furniture is probably engraved and is painted or filled in black, and the condition is remarkably good (as at 2011). The gnomon bar has a straight support near each end. Ref: Tolbooths and Town-Houses: Civic Architecture in Scotland to 1833 (1996).
