BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dyffryn House [NT], St Nicholas

The dial stands far down in the lower gardens to the south east of the house. It is mounted on a short stone pedestal with a decorative capital which stands on three large paving stone steps, all stages being octagonal. The dial has a small 16-point compass rose at the centre, labelled to NE etc (but not to NNE etc). South of the gnomon is ’Dyffryn Gardens / 2003’, and below that is a curved EOT graph. Hours are V - XII - IV - VII with a noon gap and read from the inside, and divided to 30 and 15 minutes on an inner ring and to 30 and 10 minutes on an outer ring. Around the north perimeter is ’But the Glory of the Garden lies in more than meets the eye - Rudyard Kipling’. Also north of the gnomon is ’51 26 N GMT 3 18 W’. The chapter ring is shifted anti-clockwise to allow for the longitude correction.
