BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Red Cross Garden, Southwark

The dial is recessed into the square capital (240 x 240) of a plain baluster, 980 mm high, set on a circular plinth 150 mm high, which bears the inscription ’AS HOUR FOLLOWS HOUR GOD’S MERCIES ON US SHOWER’. It uses Roman numerals read from the inside, for V-XII-IIII-VII, with a noon gap, and divided to 30 and 5 minutes. There is an unadorned eight-point compass rose at the centre, labelled to W, N and E, but not to S. No other furniture is visible. The gnomon is missing. Octavia Hill established this little garden in 1887 as an open space for the benefit of the local poor. There is an identical pedestal a few metres away, but no second sundial!
