St Mary’s Church, Old Basing

The dial is located in the left hand lancet of the window above the south entrance doorway into the church nave, as viewed from inside the church. A matching stained glass feature is fitted in the right hand lancet of the window, and is inscribed ’Old Basing Residents Association’. The dial is oval and has upright numerals VI - XII - IV - VI, with hour lines to a semicircle around the gnomon root, with half hour chequers inside the chapter ring. Across the upper part of the oval is ’MM’. The gnomon (on the outside of the window) is a simple thin plate with a curved lower edge.
