BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial is in storage at the bookshop. It is of dark grey sandstone with a detached and very rusted ferrous gnomon, and is very heavy. Originally it was a square block with edge moulding and a raised border but now a large upper left corner is broken off and lost.
The dial surface is badly worn and flaking although some hour lines are just discernible. No other features or hour numbers can be made out. A number 2 (Arabic) is visible but appears to be a rough restoration and should not be taken as representative of the original numbering style.
The dial was originally mounted on Hewitt’s (now Murray’s) Pharmacy at the junction of Market Street with King Street in Ulverston.
