BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Brodick Castle [NT] (3), Isle of Arran

This is a 4-ring armillary sphere, with an upward pointing arrow for the gnomon. It uses Roman hour numerals, divided to 30, 15 and 5 minutes. There is a curved EOT graph on the base plate. It stands on a square pillar of local (Arran) sandstone with sunken panelled sides. An added plate at the base says ’Presented to Sir Kenneth Calman on his retiral / as Chairman of the National Trust for Scotland in 2015 / Carved from Arran stone at Culzean by the / Stonemasons and Apprentices / Sir Kenneth and Lady Calman have gifted it to / Brodick Castle, a place loved by them both / September 2015’
