BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Armentieres Square, Stalybridge

The dial was commissioned to commemorate the re-opening of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal through Stalybridge in 2001, and stands on the north side of the canal. The gnomon is in the form of a lock gate, est 10m tall, and the hour markers are stone cubes, representing the heel-stones which are set into the canal bank and are used by barge men to push against when opening the lockgates.
