Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Sparrow Park, Warton

The gnomon is a vertical limestone monolith, 2200 high. Hour stones are laid out in a circular arc around it. The tip of the stone acts as a nodus on a conceptual gnomon stretching down to the south. The instructions say ’As the top of the shadow crosses the hour line then read the time’. Hour and half hour lines are of black brick set in the turf, and hour markers are stone tablets in the turf. A totally incorrect latitude and longitude are displayed on the tablet, of N 53 48 02, W 4 03 54. This is at the Warton N of Lancaster, not the Warton S of Blackpool.
