BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Fife

This is a fine small dial, now sadly heavily eroded. Hours IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from outside, divided to 30, 15 and 5 minutes, with a noon gap for a substantial quarter-inch gnomon, now missing. The centre of the plate is filled with an eight-point compass rose, labelled to NE etc in a ring inside the chapter ring. The chapter ring ends in simple scrolls, between which is the maker’s name, read from the north, probably ’GILBERT & Co / LONDON’, but it is hard to read. The tall pedestal incorporates three standing Graces supported by a short hexagonal shaft on a square base, and standing on two levels of stone work. Above the heads of the Graces is a circular decorated capital. The dial appears to be fairly accurately aligned except for being 180° out !
