Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass

Access to this dial is restricted to the Castle grounds opening hours. It is a simple cast dial, probably 19th or early 20th century, on an older plinth. Hours VI - noon - IIII - VI, with a symbol (unclear) for noon, divided to half and quarter hours, not accurately delineated. The motto is ’Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be’, surrounding an image of Father Time with his scythe. The gnomon is supported by a pleasing sitting bird shape. The sandstone pedestal is about 1000mm high with an octagonal capital and base. The pillar consists of four conjoined circular cross sectioned columns with two bands half way up.
