BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Heaton Park Hall, Manchester

The dial stands on an elegant sandstone plinth at the eastern end of the Hall, on a lawn near the orangery. The inscriptions are not easy to read but one can make out ’. . . Clegg Jo . . Fecit / Manchester’, and ’Sic Transit Gloria Mundi’. Although the gnomon is broken, the footings remain and it can be seen that it was substantial and decorated. The sundial is listed Grade II and the Historic England description gives the date as 1756 (which appears on the pedestal) and the maker as Daniel Clegg Joiner, Manchester.
