BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St James Church, Matlock

Small, circular dialplate, proud of square base, may not be the original dialplate. Substantial gnomon. Hours marked in Roman numerals read from outside; noon gap; 8 compass points marked ‘N’, ‘NE’, ‘E’ etc. Quarter-hour markers in ring outside hour ring; half-hour markers between numbers marking hours; 5-minute markers in outermost ring of dialplate; 15-minute markers inside this. Scrolls in south of dialplate suggest that a date or signature etc may once have been legible there. Slim column of sandstone with square top.
