BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Crab Mill, Ilmington

The dial stands in the front garden on a square sectioned fluted pedestal with a large square mount stone. The mount stone carries an inscription around the perimeter but the only section readable is ’ . . ILL ONLY ...’. The dial bears a double gryphon design and small compass rose with an 8-point star labelled to NE etc. It is dated 1635 but is probably a commercial design of the 1930s. Numerals IIII - XII - IIII - VIII with noon gap, read from outside, and divided to 30, 15 and 7.5 minutes. A gryphon is also used as the gnomon support.
